There was a great turnout at the launch of “Glenlee”, the new book by local historian Glenyss Barnham! OFF members were proud to join Friends of Glenlee in celebrating this important milestone in preserving our local heritage.
Following opending remarks by Friends of Glenlee, Brian Ralston, Mattei descendent Linda Henderson enthralled the audience with her memories of the family and the property. Guests were then honoured to have David Burdon, Conservation Director at the National Trust, in attendance. He gave an optimistic address, including his memories of growing up in the area and being intrigued by The Farm, as locals then called Glenlee. The author then described her motivation for and process of writing her book, following which David launched the book.
Our dedicated Councillors Councillor Peter Mahoney: and Councillor Matt Allison: both long-time champions for Glenlee, also attended.
The event fittingly took place on election day. Following the unexpected results, we’re hopeful the Prime Minister Anthony Alanese will commit to protecting this historic site.
Let’s keep the pressure on, as together we will Save Glenlee Lugarno!
