Georges River Council is planning to upgrade the Lime Kiln Bay Wetlands to rectify many problems in its operation. the Wetlands were constructed in 1999 to clean stormwater before it flows into the Georges River. However it has suffered from lack of maintenance and is now in need of restoration. OFF has campaigned over many years for this to occur.
A few years ago Council engaged a consultant to examine the scheme and report on measures to improve it. Unfortunately the results of this report have not been made public despite many requests. The render now published is the only information released and it does not show enough details to understand enough of what is proposed. OFF wrote to Council asking for more details before submssions close. As a result the closing date for submissions has been extended to 28 July, following an information session at the Council’s Mortdale Depot, in comjunction with the Tree Giveaway, on the preceeding day, Sunday 27 July, from 9am to 3pm.
This link will take you to the Council site for information and submission details, including on the information session.
OFF has already made a submission on this project and it can be found here.
We encourage members to make a submssion. You can use the OFF submission for talking points. Share what you love about the wetlands and how you use the space. Let’s make sure Lime Kiln Bay gets the attention and investment it’s needed for years.
